My name is Darron Passlow and I live in the beautiful Southern Highlands of NSW (Moss Vale). I am involved with local government in Australia. A colleague and I have been working on a similar concept to this site, in Australia, for sharing information around local government bodies in Australia and New Zealand. This initiative has been a resounding success with several hundred members and more that 1800 pages of very useful information. The initiative was started in earnest in January 2009 and has been primarily driven and marketed by one individual (my colleague Wayne Eddy). I am also involved with a more general Government initiative (organised by the Feds in Australia) referred to as the Cov2.0 initiative. This initiative is struggling for traction but is currently being promoted around Australia through "physical presence" workshops in all major cities (locations)
I have been tracking this MuniGov site now for several months (as a member) and I have been waiting for some exciting content additions to occur - but low and behold, I sit here today looking at a "non descript cover sheet" with a few headings and virtually no content (and it seems no real members).
What are the plans for this site or is it assumed that it will grow organically without the appropriate nurturing and input.
My advice (from tracking our success in Australia) is; 1 The site needs to be more widely marketed 2 Some key contributors need to be attracted to the site to add much need (and interesting) content 3 The site content needs to be monitored and "passively controlled" initially to ensure content is appropriate and interesting 4 A champion needs to be found (appointed) who will drive the initiatives on this site to extraction!
Good luck and I am happy to share our experiences in Australia with anyone who is interested. Just add a comment to this discussion page (which I am tracking) and I will be informed (or send me an email)
